Gundari Resort on Folegandros Island
By Editorial Staff -

Set amid Mediterranean heathland and the infinite blue horizons of the Aegean Sea, Gundari Resort is an accommodation facility on Folegandros Island, in the Cyclades, Greece. The project, the work of Greek studio Block722, achieves a perfect balance between architecture and landscape, demonstrating how architecture can blend harmoniously into its natural setting.

Gundari Resort: in perfect harmony with the landscape

Perched on a clifftop and surrounded by rocky hills, Gundari Resort comprises a series of low structures that seem to emerge naturally from the ground. The complex has two sections, with one set into the ground, with green roofs that blend into the local vegetation, and the other comprising visible structures at ground level. This approach not only respects the surrounding landscape but provides guests with an immersive experience in the Mediterranean heathland as they enjoy panoramic views of the Aegean from every location.

Inspired by the traditional architecture of Greek villages, in which a common space overlooks a central square, the main building, with the reception and public spaces, occupies a slightly elevated position. Set among the various buildings, an infinity pool merges with the colors of the sea, offering visitors an infinite blue panorama.

A palette of warm, natural colors

The design of Gundari Resort recalls the architectural traditions of the Cyclades in its use of natural materials, such as marble, wood, and clay, which contribute to creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The external walls are finished with irregular stones with sandy colors reused from the building site, recalling the aesthetics of dry stone walls while underscoring the concept of sustainable architecture. Inside, beige floors combine with built-in and freestanding furnishings in dark timber designed by Block722, and artworks, ceramics, and décor items with neutral tones.
