Bassi Business Park

Shapes and Transparency for the Façade

OBR Paolo Brescia e Tommaso Principi

Bassi Business Park
By Editorial Staff -
Gualini has participated in the project

Bassi Business Park, designed by OBR, is in the heart of Milan, between the Porta Nuova and Scalo Farini districts of the city. The development has taken a series of existing buildings from the 1970s and completely revitalized and revamped them, creating a new business complex for the city. Fitting in perfectly with the very latest trends in office space design, the project foregrounded flexibility in the use of working environments and the well-being of the future users.

Inside, the interiors are characterized by an overarching sense of transparency created by the sweeping glazed façades, which are not only an esthetic touch, but also play a critical role in improving user comfort. Along similar lines, the layout includes a combination of areas for team work and sections for socializing, such as break areas and panoramic terraces. Outside, the extensive façades are once again the dominant visual feature, reflecting during the day and iridescent at night. However, the exterior has the additional defining feature of the lines of the sunscreens and pilasters that frame the spaces and play with the reflections of the sunlight.

Gualini, a company in the Costim group, worked with the architects on the design, manufacturing and supplying the envelope for the entire complex and so playing a crucial role in making OBR’s architectural vision reality. The new elevations are made with continuous glass façades with profiles of extruded aluminum that are framed by the aluminum sunscreens and pilasters in more than 40 different hues. Using specially designed steel connection plates, the façade system produces a striking visual effect.

The roof terraces are the final part of the regeneration of the exterior, bordered by a glass parapet with a concealed aluminum profile and the architectural extension into the void above of the aluminum sunscreens and pilasters that characterize the façade.
