Phase 2 of the Space for Nice Ideas contest promoted by Nice has just concluded. The contest was called to choose the architecture practice to be assigned the design of the new R&D building of Nice, the multinational leader in Home Automation, Home Security and Smart Homes headquartered in Oderzo, in the Italian province of Treviso.

After examining the submissions of the four finalists – each of them outstanding projects – the jury, headed by Lauro Buoro, Nice Chairman & Founder, awarded the brief to build the new Nice R&D facility to TheNiceBreath – an organism that breathes by the firm Alvisi Kirimoto + Partners.

The contest organizers would like to thank and congratulate the other finalists for their excellent proposals: Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia with Space for Nice Ideas, Park Associati with Nice Moving and architects Andrea Rigo e Carlotta Rigo with Green Urban Canyon.

The jury gave the following motivation for choosing the Alvisi Kirimoto practice: “The design stands out for its simple sophisticated elegance and sleek lines offset by the color white, making for a strong, iconic yet retrained architectural project. Perfectly adapted to its site, the project dialogues in full harmony with the surrounding industrial and natural context, especially with the pre-existing Nice Headquarters. Preserving a significant section of the existing building in no way limits the project’s excellence. The project also proposes avant-garde technological solutions and innovations, such as the high degree of in-built spatial flexibility and the possibility for the project itself to evolve over time.”
