Lech Walesa Airport

Mapei has participated in the project
In the early 21st century passenger numbers began to grow at Gdansk’s Lech Walesa Airport. As such, with UEFA Euro 2012 also on the horizon, it was decided to entrust JSK Architekci with designing a new terminal.
The terminal has a wavy roof, supported by V-shaped pillars, that allows natural light into the building. Mapei’s involvement in the project was to supply materials for waterproofing and sealing surfaces.
The internal and external concrete surfaces were treated with Mapeband to rebuild the corner joints between the walls and the foundations. These were then waterproofed by spraying Mapelastic, a choice necessitated by the size of the area needing to be treated.
In the terminal, the tiles used for the flooring in the arrivals and departures halls were glued with Adesilex P4 as this is an ideal product for areas subject to heavy foot traffic. The grouting was done using Keracolor FF.
The restroom tiles were glued using Adesilex P9, while in the utilities rooms, the tiles were laid using Mapeklej Extra, which is manufactured and sold in Poland.
The building of Terminal 2 doubled the capacity of Gdansk airport. The entire building was designed using a modular system to allow future additions, should further space be needed.
