The wonderful hills gazing out onto the bay of Cannes are the delightful setting for this house in which inside-outside dynamics and the extremely fluid layout of space are defining features. The use of materials also plays a central role in helping to remove spatial barriers. Stone, glass, metal and concrete are used indistinctly inside and outside the house, but also in carefully considered combinations. Getting the right vistas was another driving element of the design.
Large open spaces were created to provide sweeping panoramas of the bay. The kitchen, the brainchild of FA Maggiore bulthaup Sanremo, is an excellent of example of this. Indeed, the main kitchen has two distinct parts: the one more, centred on food preparation, is entirely in stainless steel with a sink, dishwashers, blast chiller and vacuum packing machine; the other, more sociable, has lovely views of the bay and is centred on a cooking island around which food can be prepared in company.
The two sections are joined in a longitudinal space with oak cupboards and shelving that, spread across 9 m, also house fridges, ovens, a coffee machine and, of course, storage space. The care for detail is evident in the seamless use of oak for cupboards and panels even around the windows, allowing glimpses of the hills in the background. The lower level has another kitchen area, where natural coloured aluminium is coupled with shelves and panels in white Corian that help create a link to the infinity-style pool outside.
