This design by Gruppofonarchitetti took a 1960s house in Treviso in a rather anonymous, architecturally uninspiring section of the outskirts of the town and tore it down to replace it with something new, producing a solution that came up trumps in terms of cost, performance, composition and form. The lines and materials at the heart of this house are a complete break from the local building tradition, with the volume of the structure making extensive use of continuous curved lines, especially the metal sides extending upwards and then bending around to form the roof. The overall effect of this approach is a sense of measure, formal unity and careful proportions.

The greyness of the metal used on the sides acts as a counterpoint to the white of the façades, framing them and highlighting the rhythmic placement of the windows.

A rigid wooden frame forms the basis for this efficient, high performance building envelope, which has a ventilated skin made of Vestis aluminum in Mazzonetto’s The Skin system, a guarantee of durability and energy efficiency.

The continuous air duct between the façade and the roof is exceptionally efficient at dissipating heat that builds up from the sun’s rays, boosted by the curved shape that connects the walls to the roof helping the “chimney” effect. The Skin metal cladding solution also offers architects plenty of room to design façades as they want, even using complex shapes on a small or large scale. The use of super-polyester coil coated cladding adds increased durability, especially as the coating layers are significantly above the average at 35µ. The paint used is also resistant to temperature changes and can withstand significant stress during processing.

In this specific project, the envelope is made of Vestis aluminum, in Dolomite Grey, and it was assembled using a seaming technique. Vestis fares especially well on the corrosion front because of the intrinsic properties of the aluminum alloy used and the thickness of the paint (20 µ) on the inner side, where the metal meets the structure. This type of aluminum comes in a number of colors and surface variants, with a smooth or structured finish, and it is remarkably tough and damage resistant, despite being so light.   For example, a Vestis aluminum roof with a seam installation weighs a mere 1/10 of a traditional roof.

The robust combination of aesthetics, practicality and performance in this house is the result of the company working closely with the designers and the fundamental support of Lattonerie Bonora, which brought its considerable installation experience and professional expertise to the table, resolving any issues or potential limitations that arose during the design phase.
