Sandy Island Villas Development - A development comprising 18 luxury villas for YTL Corporation in Sentosa Cove, a short distance from the metropolitan hub of Singapore. Sandy Island is situated in the exclusive Sentosa Cove. Asia’s premier integrated marina community. The new construction of 10,000 m² on a 17,000 m² island faces the Java Sea. The plan for the 18 villas consists of four different design configurations and materials – mainly natural stones and wood. The linear, elegant design suggests a strong feeling of privacy, while at the same time preserving the sense of freedom and expansiveness that one has when facing the open sea. Each villa of 700 m² has its own swimming pool and double-height living area. Designed with the most discerning individuals in mind, every villa is a visual meditation on the
concept of ‘home’; a temple for the senses set in a tropical idyll. Each home is one of a kind, an original work of art by the acknowledged master of contemporary architecture, Claudio Silvestrin. Unified by his creative vision, Sandy Island is an incarnation of a particular philosophy which he holds close to his heart – a home should be a meditative space in which owners can restore their sense of balance and calm, free from the hectic pace and arbitrary intrusiveness of modern life. The exterior design is typified by tall monolithic facades entirely clad in stone punctuated by Silvestrin’s distinctive open topped narrow apertures, and solid timber screens. The 18 villas on Sandy Island are unique creations by Claudio Silvestrin, and have been personally named by him after 18 Masters of Italian art and architec
ture who have inspired his designs. In Silvestrin’s design there is a deliberate continuity between the external design and that of its interior - each is seamlessly integrated with the other in one cohesive whole. Beautifully proportioned spaces interconnect with minimal intrusion of doors or barriers, creating a seamless flow from room to room, from floor to floor, from entrance to the waterfront. The 18 waterfront villas are nestled within a tropical island oasis of privacy and calm with a prosperous landscape that softens the architecture. Each villa features: §• five bedrooms §• an impressive double volume living area with floor to ceiling glass panels facing the waterfront §• an option to transform the entire second floor into a single master suite, complete with lavish dressing areas and bathroom §• a master suite bathroom featuring the signature Boffi, I Fiumi long bath and double washbasins designed by Claudio Silvestrin §• a passenger lift connecting all floors §• a lower floor with a spacious garage for two luxury cars and a dedicated car lift; and a thoughtful provisions including a golf store and an option for dehumidified cloak room, a luggage room, or a temperature-controlled wine cellar. Highly creative, Claudio Silvestrin was born in 1954, studied under A. G. Fronzoni in Milan and at the Architectural Association in London. His interest in philosophy, his vision, his integrity, clarity of mind, inventiveness and concern for details is reflected in his distinctive architecture: austere but not extreme, contemporary yet timeless, calming but not ascetic, strong but not intimidating, elegant but not ostentatious, simple but not soulless. Claudio Silvestrin Architects was established in 1989 with offices in London, and since 2006 also Milan. The work of the practice encompasses real estate developments, newly built houses and resorts for private residence, art galleries and museums, restaurants, luxury retail stores and furniture design.
