Naturalness, lightness, friendliness, dynamism and elegance were important to us in the design. The sustainable, natural, renewable raw material wood as a façade element forms a bridge to the surrounding nature. With its flowing, organic forms, the three-part residential building should blend harmoniously into the natural surroundings by the lake. The expressive window curves and projecting balconies additionally accentuate the façade and building form and allow generous views of the lake and bring the surrounding nature into the interior of the building.
The building is located on the border between Berlin Zehlendorf and Potsdam and was intended to blend harmoniously into the surrounding landscape and nature. The surrounding buildings - such as the neighbouring residential complex - did not play a major role. Instead, the slope of the plot towards the edge of the lake, the trees and the beautiful natural surroundings influenced the design and the terraced, rather sculptural shape of the building. The dynamic, curved, wave-like shape of the building can be seen as a reference to the water. This was intended to make the new building stand out clearly from the typical urban villas and set its own accent.
Wood is a natural, renewable raw material. The façade material wood is intended to build a design bridge to nature in the project. A timber façade can be combined very well with modern architecture while still offering a pleasant degree of naturalness and warmth. Wood stands for nature and sustainability, easy processing and quick, almost season-independent installation. A major advantage of wood on the façade is the possibility of prefabrication. The high fitting accuracy of the elements makes installation easier and shortens construction times. Attention was paid to energy efficiency during the planning phase: Compliance with legal requirements regarding thermal insulation, thermal bridges, summer heat insulation and regenerative energy requirements using an air heat pump.
The three-storey residential building with underground parking has generous access to the water. The garden has a park-like character. The shape of the building is stepped with sweeping curves. The design refers directly to the topography of the site, with its slope towards the water. The rear-ventilated wood façade made of rhombus strips in glazed thermo ash structures the façade vertically. Horizontally, the façade is divided by white, weather-resistant coated metal strips. The expressive window curves and projecting balconies additionally accentuate the façade and building form and allow generous views of the lake and bring the surrounding nature into the interior of the building. From the garden level upwards, the balconies are fitted with fall-protected glass balustrades, whose striped pattern corresponds with the vertical structuring of the wooden façade.
Directly at the Griebnitzsee the house gives contemporary living quality in the middle of nature in an urban context. On almost 2.500 m² of site ground, the project was developed with beautiful gardens, terraces and/or balconies facing lake and nature.
