The project was conceived from the clients' desire for a luxurious home that feels like a boutique hotel, accommodating social engagement and private retreats. Inspired by their Hudson River School paintings, the concept uses "portals" to frame views, creating a cinematic experience. The design process involved understanding the clients' lifestyle, resulting in an H-shaped layout with a central gallery connecting the private and public wings of the layout. The interiors blend modern and traditional elements; bold accents such as a 12-foot bronze door, a bright blue living room with an orange onyx fireplace, and custom-embroidered dining chairs contribute to the sophisticated and glamorous aesthetic. The home integrates architecture and landscape, creating functional, livable spaces.

Zoned Efficiency: The residence has separate public and private zones, conditioned independently to reduce energy use. A rooftop solar array, VAV system, thermostats, smart controls, and lighting sensors in every room further cut energy consumption.
Materiality and Longevity: Using a steel frame pre-cut off-site, FSC Certified wood, zero VOC materials, and recycled/recyclable content in carpets and tiles ensures quality and reduces waste. Vintage lighting and furniture also lower raw material consumption.
Occupant Wellbeing: Rooms have access to natural light, ventilation, and views through operable windows. Individual temperature controls, layered lighting, daylight sensors, low VOC materials, and MERV 13 air filters enhance comfort and health.
The clients sought a harmonious blend of social engagement and seclusion in a warm, well-appointed home with an atmosphere reminiscent of a boutique hotel. The design draws from various periods and styles to create a unique aesthetic reflective of the family.
The home's monumental scale is divided into carefully framed vignettes, inspired by the clients' collection of Hudson River School paintings. These "portals" create a curated experience, framing daily activities against expansive landscapes. The design balances grandeur, whimsy, and modernity, with a nuanced ambiance evocative of old Vegas glamour.
Unassuming from the street, the home is nestled into a hillside, gradually revealing itself along a winding drive. Visitors are greeted by massive ornamental brass doors framed by stone pillars, leading to a courtyard juxtaposing classical formality and a modern steel-clad entry volume. The central gallery, with bone-colored marble flooring and onyx insets, serves as the main circulation spine, inviting guests to move through spaces connected by frames and concrete archways framing exterior views.
The H-shaped plan breaks down the home's scale into livable, discoverable environments. The central gallery branches into gathering spaces, including a media room, formal living room, dining room, and a grand stairwell leading to the upper-level entertainment lounge. A perpendicular corridor at the center connects private and guest wings.

His integrated approach streamlined the entire process and provided an enhanced level of comfort for us. All our design conversations, whether they related to architecture, furniture, landscape, or art and accessories, were with one team. They oversaw the whole project making sure every detail was perfect.
Daniel Joseph Chenin, an integrated architecture and interiors studio founded in 2014, specializes in creating fully conceptualized residential environments. Rooted in the philosophy that designs should be immersive and evoke emotions, each project aims to create a unique story and sense of place.
The studio designs from the inside out, focusing on the function, organization, and sequencing of spaces, blending architecture and interior design seamlessly.
By taking on a limited number of commissions, the studio begins each project by studying the client's lifestyle and needs, balancing functional and aesthetic priorities through an integrated approach that unifies architecture, interiors, and exterior elements.
