Gazipaşa Marina is a project that acts as a new touristic and commercial hub, fulfilling the need of an attraction center within the area. The design aims not only to turn the city itself into a new attraction point, but also to arouse interest in the natural beauty of its beaches and rich history by extracting the potential of the region, its ancient history, urban resources and transportation opportunities.
The Gazipaşa Marina is located right between the ancient city of Selinus and public beaches of Gazipaşa. The main road connecting the town to the sea leads people directly to the marina and creates a landmark and meeting point for everyone. It is situated in a very accessible location with its proximity to the airport and bus station. The project acts as a bridge within the coastline, connecting history with the natural beaches and the modern city.
A grid iron pedestrian road system perpendicular to the sea is designed where the two floor height buildings are located along these pathways. The axis perpendicular to the sea allows summer breeze to reach the internal parts of the marina. Shaded areas are designed with canopies and secondary pedestrian circulation areas created on the upper level to protect people from disturbing effects of the sun. Local recyclable materials such as natural stone and wood are preferred. Solar panels will be placed on the roofs which will provide the electricity energy needed by the facility.
Gazipaşa Marina will be a new attraction point, a commercial hub and also will increase the interest in the natural and historic beauty of the region. The pedestrian roads create an axis system perpendicular to the sea which allows winds to pass through and creates a cooling effect. The canopies and a cantilever pedestrian path at the second level are designed for the protection from the sun. Breakwater allows a safe docking area for the boats and yachts, as well as a dry dock area and an atelier for their technical needs and repairs. The yacht club also provides all amenities the yachters need. Various commercial facilities are spread around, forming streets that create an integrated experience, enhancing the traditional bazaar culture of Mediterranean. The street like design of commercial units spans both stories, creating a sense of unity and depth throughout the design as well as enhancing the flow. The food court and restaurants are located in front of the docking area, utilizing the view and creating captivating panoramas further enriched by the gently rocking boats within the dock.
Gazipaşa Marina will be a new hub not only for the yachts and yachtsman, but will also increase the interest and number of visitors by creating awareness for the region.
