The project idea tooks place watching around the Cadore Region, finding something linked with the tradition of the old farm constructions. We finded it in the so called "tabià", the tipical mountain building that is made with stones and wood. The lower floor is the stable of the animals and the upper part is the barn for the hay to get dry. Obviously a grand stand that deals with structural frame cannot be made with stones; that's why they have been replaced with concrete. Other materials keep their origins, such as wood, aluminum and glass, that are tipical. The main goal was to build something that relay with the landascape and that mantain the proportions of the existing buildings, giving the eye a comfortable view
As one can see from the linked photos, the landscape itself represent something unique in the Northern Italy. The "Dolomites" are Unesco world heritage and the respect that architecture must have here should be maximum. That's why the first impression that we had was. "We need to be very gentle and respectful, the surroundings are amazing and we must be careful". The other strong idea was to make this building attractive not only for itself but also for the marvelous view that this privilege terrace can give us. The picks of the Dolomites have enchented us.
We apply the Italian rules based on the so called "CAM" (minimum landscape criteria) and also the new trend so called DNSH (do no significant harm). This two methods gave us a lot of opportunities to choose the main aspects of the project: first of all the place to build it, to avoid frequent mountain storm and flooding. Second the materials that must be linked with the tradition but at the same time resistant and long-lasting, to reduce maintenance. Third the circular economy that deals with material composition, duration and post life treatment. The worksite has been studied to avoid dust, wasted materials and rumours and to be as quick as possible, knowing that outside working time in the mountains has short seasons.
Being a sport builnding means that all the sports national rules must be observe. Structures, plants and finishes must be done the right way. One of the strongest point that characterize the building is the fact that a player in the middle of the field has no limited view towards the mountains; the effect has been obtained with the correct gradient of the terraced seats and of the roof and with the right height of the main structure. The project respect the ideal eye line without modify the actual proportion between soil and sky. An other aspect that must be underlined is that the spectator find himself very confortable while seated; the perfect proportion view towards the football field and the materials envelop him: wooden boards, concrete pillar and a nice and gentle full glass railing that allow a complete view. Last but not least, the geometric shape of the building from the main entrance: a rotated triangle that remembers the Dolomites peaks.
Think about what the area is now and what will be in the near future. Think about a new building that seems to have always been there. Consider the old materials like new ones as you have reached to make them with modern shapes. Dream about the Dolomites, their colours, their lights, their shades. Put this all together and open your eyes: how does it feel? Heaven is not that far, so enjoy!
Vittorio & Associati is a firm located in northern Italy that since 1996 deals with Sport leisure. This particular specialization is something that characterize the whole work of the team and moves from sport hall to stadium, from track and field to sintethic pitch. In the last ten years the firm has been involved in energy efficiency as far as new and existing building is concerned.
The team is splitted in two different location, the historical one in Udine and the new one in Dolcè, few kilometers north of Verona City. In thi moment the work is basically distribuited in whole North Italy, but in the last period i salso moving a bit towards central Regions. The most important word in Vittorio & Associati's projects is "functionality", known as the standard concept married with the perfect shape, avoiding more costs, bigger plants and expensive management.
