Chisinau Arena is a complex occupying 100.000 sqm land area in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova and it is the main sport and entertainment facility in the city. The project consists of a basketball arena, an aqua center, and a tennis club. These three functions are connected by a plaza in the center. The space and the infrastructure are organized flexibly to allow for many different types of events and performances to take place. The arena is wrapped by a folded perforated shell, controlling the sunlight while creating in-between public spaces and giving a characteristic image to the building. While the shell structure is touching to the ground level, openings are functioning as big windows to emphasize entrances and to give view to different facades of the building.
Chisinau Arena is a complex with a 33.740 sqm construction area having a 4.900 visitor capacity in Chisinau, Moldova. The project consists of a basketball arena together with a training area and spectators plaza, an aqua center, and an open tennis club. The complex is organized so that an urban plaza is created at the center which acts as an extension of the city. The plaza is supported by the spectator’s plaza, the café, and the pool.
In Chisinau Arena, the main gaming hall can accommodate different numbers of people depending on the configuration of the event. The building mainly hosts basketball, volleyball, handball, mini-football, boxing, etc. On the other hand, it can also host cultural events such as concerts, congresses, and exhibitions. The venue and infrastructure have been arranged flexibly to allow for many different types of events and performances. It has a maximum audience capacity of 4,900 for a concert event, 4,000 for a basketball event, and 4,751 for a conference event. The venue has 178 skybox seats, 317 business seats, 1,810 fixed tribune seats, 54 fixed press tribune seats, 1,428 telescopic tribune seats, 20 disabled tribune seats, and 20 companion seats. The arena is enveloped by a shell/surface consisting of folded perforated triangular panels that control sunlight while giving a distinctive appearance. This shell extends, shortens, heightens, and lowers according to the functions of the hall, and creates shaded intermediate spaces between itself and the hall's structure. The shell is an interfacial surface that takes shape in conjunction with the structure and the outdoor environment.
