The design transforms the building into a symbol of Industry 4.0, with sinuous lines that liberate the volume and create unique convivial spaces. In addition to operational office spaces, the design introduces a large rooftop terrace and a vast, zenitally lit central patio, both enhanced by abundant greenery. These open-air spaces stimulate a dynamic and informal atmosphere, fostering conviviality and well-being. Openings reminiscent of large eyes increase recognisability, offering new vantage points on the Porta Romana slipway. Soft forms replace the original rigid volume, creating a modern and sustainable working environment full of natural light and functional spaces such as the large staircase on the ground floor embellished with artistic tree sculptures.

The architectural language of the project is simple, sober and contemporary, aimed at dialoguing harmoniously with the surrounding context. This area, characterised by buildings of various periods and styles, has replaced an original rural and industrial landscape of the second half of the 20th century. The new architectural forms, while distinctive and recognisable, create a visual connection between Via De Angeli, Via Pietrasanta and Via Pompeo Leoni, giving a sense of circularity and continuity to the meeting of these three streets, integrating perfectly into the urban fabric.

The Project manifests a commitment to environmentally friendly and innovative practices. This holistic approach aims at a building that responds not only with state-of-the-art plant engineering but also with biophilic choices aimed at creating a harmonious and efficient environment. The façade allows natural light to enter while the external fascias, not relegated to a mere aesthetic function, protect the envelope from solar radiation. The triple height skylight naturally illuminates all floors, bringing light and greenery to otherwise dark central rooms. A simultaneous demand for heat and cold has been taken into account, both for exposure and for rooms, adopting systems to optimise the plant capacity capable of varying the effective power according to need.

The project involves the total redevelopment of an office building, transforming it into a symbol of Industry 4.0 with sinuous and iconic lines. The external envelope, vertical connections and façade will be renovated to improve energy efficiency and comfort. State-of-the-art plant engineering will ensure excellent performance. A new terrace built on the roof of the building will provide a view of the city in the area of Scalo Porta Romana, which will host the 2026 Winter Olympics, thanks to openings created in the skin of the building that resemble the shape of large eyes, offering unique convivial spaces. An additional large interior patio, together with a central triple-height volume, will increase natural light. The aim is to create sustainable, pleasant and functional work spaces in a modern building that visually connects Via De Angeli with Via Pietrasanta.

The Project develops an icon of Industry 4.0 with sinuous and innovative lines. It envisages a renewed and modern external envelope to improve comfort and energy efficiency. The panoramic terrace, characterised by two large eye openings, and the triple-height volume increase natural light and create unique convivial spaces. All this to create a sustainable, comfortable working environment that meets today's needs with a biophilic approach.

Curriculum

Based in Milan, the Giuseppe Tortato Architetti studio develops architecture and interior design projects offering a multidisciplinary and tailor-made approach for Italian and international clients, both corporate and private. Their approach to design stems from research into sensory experience and sustainability, considering the human being as the central element and brings nature into the designed spaces. With the realization of La Forgiatura, which was later joined by the Econocom headquarters in Milan, the firm came to national and international attention. Over the years the Studio has been involved in other important projects: Arcadia Center, the headquarters of Volkswagen Leasing and Volkswagen Bank, Il Refettorio in Venice, SIT headquarters in Padua, and via Varesina 204 in Milan, the Italian headquarters of Whirlpool. Today, the Studio is made up of a multidisciplinary team and carries out research and design work on a national and international level in several sectors.
