Trilitica - NOI Techpark B6, a pure and free of contamination volume

Trilitica's design is the result of formal research where the building's static performance and architectural language are aimed at optimisation. The compositional study carried out by the design team focuses on volume, reducing it to the essential. The building is pure, free of contamination, absolute. Form and statics coincide. In the façade this choice is evident. It starts with the archetypal concept of the portal, an elementary trilithic object, and then develops it in a plastic key to create a strongly identifying element. From the base to the top, the monolith responds to the static behaviour of the structure, creating a composition that becomes lighter as it rises. This is how Trilitica expresses its natural essence.

The work is aligned with the industrial soul of the surrounding neighbourhood, settling in coherently and generating a new context marker. The volume defined by the designers is an elongated parallelepiped along the east-west axis whose compact, unidirectional development creates two distinct perceptual fronts. A transparent project that pays homage to absolute purity. With a total volume above ground of 34,500 cubic metres on seven storeys above ground and two below, Trilitica is an ambitious project that takes on numerous challenges in the field of architecture and construction.

The building is designed to meet ILFI (International Living Future Institute) Zero Carbon certification requirements both in terms of energy 'Operational Carbon' and composition 'Embodied Carbon'. 100% of the operational energy consumption comes from renewable energy produced on-site and off-site; and in terms of Embodied Carbon, the design is aimed at limiting its impact through optimisation and the use of materials with a reduced carbon footprint throughout the life cycle. To be Zero Carbon certified, the building's embodied carbon is less than 500 kg CO2e/m2. Reinforcing Trilitica's green philosophy comes the 'my green lab' certification, which attests to the laboratories' reduced environmental impact by encouraging virtuous behaviour.

"With Trilitica, we wanted to realise an innovative work in terms of environmental sustainability," explains Roberto Busselli, founder of Studio Busselli Scherer, "without sacrificing the compositional quality of the architectural object. To enable the building to reach the standards required by the ILFI international certification, we worked on the essentiality of the structure and envelope'. The result is a building that develops its strength in the perimeter, thanks to the external positioning of the skeleton, freeing the internal surface, which, in this way, acquires maximum flexibility. Internally, the work is designed in a human-centred key. To this end, the project envisages large openings to allow natural light to enter and the presence of internal patios dedicated to vegetation where users can rest, benefiting from the positive effects of Biophilic Design. "In our architecture, we attach great importance to people's psycho-physical well-being. We know that space generates effects on those who live in it,' explains architect Busselli, 'encouraging more or less positive behaviour. Starting from this principle, we try to conceive spaces that favour positive experiences. We value natural light, living quality, interrelationships and the nature experienced within the building'.

Trilitica is a project in which we strongly believe because it embodies the innovative soul of the NOI Techpark. It is an ambitious project that takes on numerous challenges related to the architecture and construction sector.

Curriculum

The architectural approach of Busselli Scherer starts from people, making elements such as imagination, experimentation and research the foundations of its design culture. The South Tyrolean architectural firm, led by Roberto Busselli and Michael Scherer, imagines a world of relationships where architecture is in dialogue with people, cities and nature. A human-centered vision from which to draw innovative solutions, in connection with sustainability and living comfort. Busselli Scherer deals with architectural design, interior design and construction management. The studio's main areas of design range from the world of headquarters to the residential world, and from regeneration through urban green to public architecture in the health, education and social sectors. The studio is located in the historic centre of Bolzano, in a fascinating building from the early '900, a living and synergistic space open to the influences and stimuli of different sectors and visions.
