Raise the curtain! The clubhouse Falzes in Val Pusteria can accommodate up to 280 people, here Roland Baldi Architects staged their interior design concept. The stage was designed entirely in black and is equipped with all technical stage equipment. Like a sound box, the main auditorium has been clad in oak wood with reflectors hanging from the ceiling to ensure optimal acoustics, while the entrance and foyer come alive with a play of curtains that can be opened or closed to welcome spectators with different possible interior scenarios.
Inspired by the stage curtain, the entrance and the foyer come alive with a play of curtains that can be opened or closed. This play not only welcomes the spectators with different possible interior scenarios, but also opens the view to the typical outdoor landscape from Falzes. In this way, not only is the curtain opened during performances, but also the bar and cloakroom can be opened theatrically and when not in use can be elegantly darkened. In this way, different scenarios are created that will enliven the Falzes Association House, a venue and meeting place for the entire community.
Our idea of sustainability, an often-abused word, but one that we considered to be of real value. All wall and floor coverings were made of solid oak. Highly durable and low-maintenance materials and systems were used to keep the maintenance and running costs of the building low. The materials and construction techniques used belong to the local tradition or established innovative technologies. Following the guidelines of CAM, the 'Minimum Environmental Criteria', all furnishings are designed to ensure sustainable, quality design.
The project is founded on the desire to give the community a space for its events and bring together citizens of all ages. Therefore a traditional space for events, but also welcoming other moments of citizenship. The project is tripartite: the entrance area with the cloakroom, the foyer with the bar area and the main hall. These three spaces, in addition to their traditional functions, accommodate a great deal of flexibility, in fact on many occasions the hall designed for performances is transformed, as an extension of the foyer, becoming a hall for banquets, discussions, theatre and other functions. This capacity reinterprets the traditional concept of the theatre and makes it a flexible, multifunctional space open to all community events.
It is open to the community, transforming itself whenever citizens, young and old, fill these spaces for events. On some occasions, it loses its initial configuration, becoming a different place altogether, which makes the Falzes association house a space loved by the community that lives there. Thinking of a space recognised by the citizens as theirs is the main aim of its design.
Roland Baldi Architects, based in Bolzano, covers a broad spectrum of projects which vary in scale, context and function - from public and private buildings to commercial buildings, urban planning and interior design. Their architecture is characterised by a great sensitivity for context, functionality and a contemporary design language. An essential aspect is to reduce architecture to its very essence, even for the most complex of tasks. The use of pure materials and colours as well as the consideration of local references, results in a clear, high-quality and timeless architecture. Many of the projects have been awarded with national and international architecture awards and presented in reputable exhibitions (Biennale of Architecture São Paulo, Biennale of Architecture Venice, Premio Architettura Città di Oderzo, South Tyrolean Architecture Prize, Premio Architetto dell'anno, Wood Architecture Prize).
