At the beginning of the design, a preliminary analysis phase was carried out focusing on the pre-existing buildings and the typical architectural context of the Monte Mario area, investigating the composition of the façades, and the integration in them of the greenery, colours of the façades, and the insertion of the buildings themselves in the environmental and morphological structure of the district. The façades of the new residential building are characterised by large terraces that follow curved and sinuous lines, accommodating green spaces in the loops of these profiles and in their extensions. It is a building whose rounded shapes are reminiscent of the petals of a flower: the balconies, in particular, will be characterised by soft shapes with spaces destined for flower boxes.

The building consists of four blocks arranged in a radial pattern overlooking the panorama of Rome, an architecture that blends into the greenery of the site and only reveals itself when you get up close to it. The building is surrounded by a condominium garden, the subject of a careful landscape study, which includes the new planting of trees, with the aim of mitigating the impact on the surrounding area and integrating the development with the green surroundings.

The technical solutions adopted allow the achievement of a high level of quality for the type of residential building in question. The energy containment, active and passive, with the installation of photovoltaic fields on the roof for an installed power of 40kWp, reaches a high energy class. Low-thickness underfloor heating is a technology capable of providing high comfort by reducing thermal inertia and therefore reaction times. The system will also be integrated with fancoil cooling and dehumidification systems integrated into the false ceiling, invisible to the eye and operated independently in the various rooms.

The project, designed by MAD Architects based in Beijing, Los Angeles and Rome, by Arch. Stefano La Greca Bertacchi and engineered by SCE Project are an engineering and architecture company based in Milan, Rome, Ho Chi Minh City, Tirana and Singapore. The technical solutions adopted allow the achievement of a high level of quality for the type of residential building in question.Interdisciplinary design using BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology: parametric design in 3D, which allows maximum interdisciplinary coordination and therefore guarantees correct design and resolution of interferences, to obtain a functional work. The design also aims at the functionality of the work over time the design considers and evaluates the maintenance and durability aspects of the work, in particular of the most exposed portions and green areas to simplify and guarantee functionality and aesthetic aspects over time. The use of solid reinforced concrete slabs that allow for considerable spans, avoiding invisible descents inside the apartments and in correspondence with the balconies, the use of modern technologies such as the pre-compression of large balconies that allow maximum flexibility in the customization and redesign of internal spaces, structures adequately sized to support any mini pools on the terraces.

Terrazze Fedro presents itself as a delicate dialogue between the built and the natural. The attention to detail, from the composition of the facades to the inclusion of greenery, demonstrates a design sensitivity that goes beyond simple building, embracing the environment and morphology of the neighborhood. The rounded shapes, which recall the petals of a flower, give the building a sense of lightness and harmony. An architecture that not only inhabits space, but enriches it with beauty and life.
