Larrabee is a newly completed multi-farmly development project that stemmed from the growing need for sustainable urban living solutions in West Hollywood. The concept was developed through a collaborative effort between architects, city planning committee, and sustainability experts who aimed to create a co-living environment that fosters community and environmental responsibility. Inspiration was drawn from traditional courtyard housing, promoting natural light and airflow, while integrating modern materials like concrete, steel, and glass for durability and aesthetic appeal. The inclusion of ample amenities and outdoor spaces was guided by a desire to enhance the quality of life for residents, aligning with LEED Platinum standards for sustainability.
The project harmoniously integrates with the surrounding urban landscape of West Hollywood while enhancing its vibrancy. Situated near Santa Monica Boulevard, the development respects the dense urban fabric, contributing a modern yet contextual architectural presence. The interior courtyard design fosters a micro-community within the urban setting, allowing natural light and air to permeate the living spaces. The brise-soleil and rooftop terrace provide visual and environmental connectivity to the Hollywood Hills and cityscape. By offering communal amenities and outdoor spaces, Larrabee engages with the local community, promoting a seamless blend of private and public urban life.
Larrabee emphasizes sustainability through key features such as a brise-soleil to reduce heat gain, natural ventilation via an interior courtyard, and high-performance glazing. Solar panels on the rooftop generate renewable energy, while rainwater harvesting systems and low-flow fixtures reduce water consumption. The building uses recycled content in concrete and steel, locally sourced materials, and low-VOC paints and adhesives. An advanced Building Management System and smart LED lighting with motion sensors optimize energy usage. The project reduces its carbon footprint, enhances resident well-being with natural light and green spaces, and fosters community engagement through shared amenities. This approach minimizes environmental impact and sets a model for future urban developments.
Housing 50 residents, Larrabee is designed around a central courtyard to maximize natural light and airflow. Its defining features include a brise-soleil for thermal regulation, high-performance glazing, and a material palette of concrete, steel, and glass. The building offers amenities like a theater, office spaces, and a rooftop terrace with panoramic views. Achieving LEED Platinum equivalent certification, Larrabee stands out for its sustainable design, with solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and energy-efficient systems fostering a vibrant, eco-friendly community. Its layout encourages social interaction while promoting environmental consciousness. With thoughtful integration of green technologies and communal spaces, Larrabee sets a new standard for sustainable urban living, blending functionality with aesthetics to create a harmonious living environment that prioritizes both resident comfort and environmental responsibility.
