The family, wanted a home with a large social area, but at the same time, permitting simultaneous uses for the different family clusters. The house is divided into two units interconnected by a covered walkway: one building houses the social area and the other the private area. Between the units, there is a garden protected from the sun by the building itself, maintaining a pleasant temperature. Two well-defined circulation routes cross the center of the private unit, where the staircase and elevator are located. A crucial aspect, that directly influenced the development of the project was that accessibility standards, they were implemented not only in the leisure area, but also in all the other areas of the house, including circulation, that resulted in an inclusive architecture.

The 3,500m² land plot is in a development in the interior of the state of São Paulo. The region is characterized by sunny weather and intense heat year-round. The plot is between two houses and the back faces the golf course. Based on these characteristics and a gentle slope, the main openings were designed to the front and back, taking advantage of the best views and moderate sunshine, which are filtered by adjustable muxarabis, that also create a unity for the façades. Taking advantage of the natural slope, the swimming pool was lowered so that the entire social area could take advantage of the view of the golf course.

Given the high solar incidence in the region, the project explores different strategies to have a more friendly planet house, e.g., the use of solar heating, avoiding the use of gas heaters. There is also a system of photovoltaic panels that produce and store energy, reducing consumption of conventional electricity and even generating credits with the utility company. Concerning water use, the strategy applied was the underground cisterns that store rainwater for consumption in the garden. With thermal comfort and air-conditioning savings in mind, a green roof was designed on the social unit, which, in addition to creating an outdoor living area, helps regulate the temperature of the internal environments and increases the rainwater drainage area.

The project prioritizes the use of natural light, on the large, glazed planes filtered by muxarabi and in the glass pergola at the heart of the private unit. The house was divided into two units connected by a covered walkway, providing integration and fluidity between the internal and external environments. The well-delimited circulation axes naturally define the flow of the house, and both these circulations and the other environments comply with accessibility standards. The social unit, with its well-equipped gourmet area, is the main living area. Its large glazed doors allow total integration with the outdoor area. The private unit houses bedrooms, a home theater and a playroom, with balconies that extend over the roof of the social unit. The materials chosen balance natural and technological elements. With furniture that honors Brazilian design. The project strived to meet the functions in a welcoming and personalized way.

The new house has met all expectations! With ample leisure space, comfortable rooms and a very welcoming atmosphere, all needs were met, from accessibility to a well-equipped gourmet area integrated into the social unit. The development process with the architecture office team was dynamic and fluid. The new house is now the hub for the whole family.
