House of Greens is a unique project catering to prestigious clients with a deep appreciation for nature and sustainability. The design brief for House of Greens reflects their values and personality and creating a sustainable green home with lots of greenery.

Bangalore is well known for its Gardens, and it called “City of Gardens'. In an urban scenario, we look at high density urban homes, whereas here we were blessed with greenery around the site. The quest for making use of natural greens surrounding is key to creating a House of Greens that connects to nature physically and visually.

The response was to connect the contextual greens to the interiors with well directed frames. The design has been carefully curated to enhance the Greens and frame the existing greens.

The material palette is muted with natural materials such as wooden flooring, laterite stone cladding, natural granite wooden flooring and large wooden doors and windows. The highlight on the Nature, made us to stick to natural material palette throughout the project. The concept of the house was carefully conceived to offer a garden experience in every space. The Touch green for all the spaces and framing the surrounding greenery at all levels is the key for the design. As a tribute to Bangalore, “City of Gardens”, the theme of house is to reflect the garden and abundance of green spaces.

The passive design features (Natural daylight, Natural Heating and cooling systems) of the project made it very much sustainable, along with active design features such as Rainwater harvesting and Solar Power generation. The home has large openings on the North and East side. On the West side very small or controlled windows along with deep overhangs for large openings on the Southern side. The environmentally friendly materials and energy efficient technologies to reduce the home’s environmental footprint. In addition, a variety of indoor plants, a rooftop garden and lush backyard will bring beauty of nature in living spaces, providing a tranquil and peaceful environment for the residents.

Here in the project, House of Greens, we are addressing to Integration of “BUILT” and “UNBUILT” at all levels. Also, we have innovatively framed our architectural spaces and contextual greenery to make landscape accessible at all levels physically and visually. The First design challenge was to create the Privacy for Private spaces and Main Living spaces yet create the sense of the openness and establish a connection to the landscape. To achieve the privacy, added the Vertical Strip wall at FF level on East side from the neighbor and Green wall at GF level. To reduce solar heat gain, minimal Fenestrations on West façade and Deeper overhangs on South facade that protects South Sun and create the landscape edge at all levels. Second challenge was to respect the Indian “Vaastu Principles” as per the client's requirements. The Third challenge was to design services and structure to load the soil and maintenance of water and landscape.

In an urban context, the tight urban plots are often close to each other. To create a sense of nature, we add the landscape as the part of Front yard or the back yard. Here the landscape becomes part of the physical connection at Lower level and just visual connection at upper levels. This is just separation of “BUILT” and an “UNBUILT” space.
