The N°5, which links to the Tavan Jargal name, is a symbolic recurring element, which characterizes the whole resort and its connected values. The magic number is also part of the Proponent’s family origins, making it even more valuable to the resort. From this connection, arose the 5 families’ will to founder an oasis outside the city of Ulan Bator, where its inhabitants could live a peaceful life, discovering the pleasure of nature through an innovative way of experiencing luxury and well-being.

The Resort, wich features a wide range of Hospitality, F&B and banqueting facilities, is included in a 13-hectare plot within a National Park and integrates into the terrain in a perfect combination of architecture and landscape, land and water, resulting in an oasis within walking distance of the busy capital. The 27 Villas, in particular, are designed to accommodate up to 8 people and are perfectly integrated into the natural slope of the land, to minimize their impact in the natural environment. The landscape design has been of fundamental importance in the entire design process, going so far as to define the specific tree species suitable for the harsh winter climate.

The project has been developed with a particular focus on 9 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda, which served as a landmark in architectural and MEP design by setting up clear starting points, possible developments and long-term strategies. Due to its location, the Resort is designed to become energy self-sufficient, with the goal to reach zero emissions of the settlment within 30 years. Mongolia’s extreme winter and summer conditions imply specific choices during the design. Among these, solar and wind exploitation, a power loop distribution system that can be modulated according to the season, reuse of rain and waste water through specific treatment plants, as well the production of food with a greenhouse.

The main objective of the project is the foundation of a selfsufficient and sustainable Eco- Resort immersed in nature, which will promote the improvement of Mongolian tourism by redefining the well-being and lifestyle of its citizens. The design for Tavan Jargal Resort, located 40 km from the center of Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia, includes a truly unique offering in the Mongolian landscape. The Hospitality proposal includes 27 villas of four different types, designed to accommodate up to 8 people and perfectly integrated into the natural slope of the land, a 20-room Hotel with common areas and a 1,200-square-meter SPA, featuring, among others, 2 swimming pools, an onsen, a treatment and fitness area, with dedicated family and other adult-only areas, and finally 20 Ger-pods, a modern version of the typical Mongolian dwelling, to experience an intimate stay immersed in the future forest. Dining options, on the other hand, include 3 different options, with a self-contained main restaurant, also accessible to outside guests, suspended over the water of a specially designed lake, a large restaurant inside the hotel, and a large glass greenhouse that echoes the shape of the ger, an iconic Mongolian tent. Finally, the surrounding park offers a wide range of spaces dedicated to outdoor living and outdoor activities for the little ones to fully experience the relationship with the surrounding nature, in a setting as unique as the pristine expanses of Mongolia.

The Mongolian landscape is a uniquely wild and amazingly spiritual place. In this distinctive setting we tried to create something respectful of the evocative spirit and mood of this region. A concept that appears to spring naturally from the terrain, that breathes the wilderness and allows one to experience a sense of natural luxury... yet something innovative in many aspects. All this arises from the desire to encapsulate the essence of a country that is changing without relinquishing its root
