The project is located in Qiujiawan Village, Dechang County, Sichuan Province, which has the largest Yi minority people in the region. Hidden in valleys and terraces, the original village is surrounded by mountains and forests, demonstrating impressive ethnic culture and rice specialties. However, as one of the remote and impoverished areas in the province, the village faces challenges such as population outflow, aging problem and material deprivation.

Adhering to the goal of helping villagers get rid of poverty and achieve rural revitalization, the scheme takes the homestay economy as a breakthrough to rebuild a "new village", gathering the functions of resettlement, farming center and homestay hotel.

The planning fully consider the feature of the site backing mountain and facing valley, and create a complex of buildings and spaces that extend towards the mountain, by means of pilotis raising, layers retreating and platform dividing. The resort area is a large volume of the design, mainly composed of hotel, homestay, art center and healing center. It gradually expands along the rice field to form an access path with appropriate scale and realize stacking and well-proportioned pattern in combination with the terrain. As key elements for organizing village space, terraces and courtyards echo the local traditional residential architecture and adapt to the climate of the site. The scattered architectural forms create unique scenes of countryside life with Luoji Mountain context.

As for the design of resettlement area, the main problems recorded by architects during the on-site survey involve incomplete residential functions, dark and damp rooms, dilapidated and under-utilized yards, beautiful traditional rammed earth walls but fragile. In this regard, the team starts from the functional iteration of the settlement building unit to rationally arrange the house type and perfect relevant functions, ensure lighting and ventilation, optimize the wall structure, and improve the insulation performance and soundness. The project follows the old architectural layout and provides each housing with a sunning ground for drying and vegetable gardens according to the living habits of the villagers. In this way, villagers can discover the value and potential of the newly created living scenes. The farming center, as a space carrier, takes the local specialty rice as the theme to integrate functions like product display, production line visits, agricultural trade and meetings to promote villagers' public activities and tourism benefits. Within the place, the main corridor space can be opened or closed, and the full-height courtyard space and semi-underground rice field garage provide users with unlimited views. The open interface makes the entire building itself one of the landscapes hidden among the endless rice fields and mountains.

The village committee, as one of the project managers, also introduces a professional operation organization to fully integrate the rural vacation pattern with the green agricultural product processing industry. As a result, new employment opportunities are created, and local villagers can take up important jobs such as house keepers, waiters, industrial workers and ethnic cultural communicators.
