In an era where most offices are designed using factory made furniture, lights & partition, this office is starkly different with all of the furniture constructed on site and the use of leftover plywood from the other building sites of the developer to create all the partitions. The entire palette of materials is sustainable, very different from most offices in general, generating a lower carbon footprint. This palette of green sustainable materials in addition to reducing the carbon footprint conveys a message to the multiple daily visitors to this office, promoting sustainability.

The clients, building developers, had an extensive brief requiring 6 cabins, conference & discussion rooms and seating for 36 employees. In spite of the density of cabins & staff, the office interior is starkly different from the most corporate offices where all the furniture, lights and partitions are typically factory made. All the furniture, lights & partitions in this office are crafted on site giving it a unique identity and character. It’s ‘couture’ in office design.

A collage of paper tubes, treated with fire retardant coatings, of different diameters form a sculptural ceiling over the central volume. These are interspersed with tubular lights created especially for this office. The 6m high partitions surrounding the central volume are designed in an abstract composition of wood & glass with cane, jute & fabric. The cabins beyond these partitions are sculpted in recycled plywood strips collected from various other sites, undulating in plan & section simultaneously. The tables, credenzas & storage cabinets within the cabins are also constructed with plywood strips lending a homogeneous sculptural look within each cabin. The larger conference room has a paper tube light installation with different sized tubes suspended at varying heights. All the furniture, lights & partitions in this office are crafted on site giving it a unique identity and character. It’s ‘couture’ in office design. The entire palette of materials is sustainable, generating a lower carbon footprint, rendering the project with its own identity. Each space is sculptural & each volume within is distinct yet merging together holistically.

This 4000sq.ft. office is situated on the 27th floor of a new office tower in Mumbai, India. The clients, building developers, had an extensive brief requiring 6 cabins, conference & discussion rooms and seating for 36 employees. The palette for the office includes a variety of sustainable materials juxtaposed differently within each of the created volumes.
