On a study of the diversity of old city architectural elements, traditional block planning and design incorporate spatial structure protection and restoration of the environment. Based on their architectural properties and node positions, the design classifies, protects, and improves the performance of existing buildings, preserves the architectural group features of the ancient city at various time stages, and makes the time history of organic growth of the historic district readable.
The matching reconstruction strategy is planned in the original layout of one street, eight lanes, and three squares. A new road skeleton is built around the main street, spreading inward to activate the town's street system, while keeping the basic layout of the old town. The structures that do not meet the texture of the old city are eliminated in strict line with the protection planning criteria of the old city, and new structures are adequately supplemented. The modern structures from the 1980s are generally retained and renovated to fulfill modern purposes. All the architectural shape keeps past traits, and the materials and colors complement the ancient city.
Architectural form, cultural form, tourism form, spatial tension, ecology, and so forth are all considered in the planning and design. The architectural form illustrates the organic expansion of the old city and emphasizes the building's group image. The cultural form's design seeks to delve thoroughly into local folk traditions and intangible cultural heritage, so that travelers may experience Shipu Old Town's distinctive fishing culture, coastal defense culture, and marine commerce culture here. The concept is strongly tied to local folk culture and intangible cultural heritage, while also including contemporary fashion IP to appeal to a wide range of travelers. The entire historic city renovation adheres to green, ecological, low-carbon, and sustainable development concepts, and crafts a "Wanxiang Mountain and sea map" with local features in the new era.
The ancient town is regarded as a growing organism, seeking multi-cultural symbiosis in the same historical block, and integrating new urban development concepts into architectural Spaces of different periods, hoping to continuously stimulate the vitality and regeneration of historical and cultural blocks.
