The object is not just a building, but an experience that is connected to climbing. The object is a "mountain range". The facade of the Climbing Sports Center has both a decoration function and a climbing function at the same time. The visitor or user can climb the wall of the facility. The building is an architecturally structured and diverse building that fits organically into the green program. The building is divided into several segments, which together form the building in the form of a concave "mountain range". The mountain range has "cracks" that divide the whole into individual "hills/walls". Cracks in the form of glass prisms have the function of entrances and transparent surfaces that let light into the object.

The building is located in a park. With the project, we want to preserve the identity of the park and upgrade it into a new, architecturally and experientially attractive area of the city. The arched, concave shape acts as a finish and a corner element around which the program is formed. Due to its design, it is an attractive element that appeals to passers-by and users. It is a point of gravity in the wider area of the city. On the road side, the building separates the green area from traffic, on the east side it creates a public space in the form of a square, which connects the Climbing Center with the future landscaped park to the east.

The design of the premises offers, with the help of optimal conditions (sunlighting, climatic conditions, natural materials...), a healthy living and working environment. Special care is devoted to the well-being of the user, which is achieved with an attractive, bright ambience and views of nature. The facility is designed in accordance with the latest guidelines for building thermal efficiency - an almost zero energy facility. A system of photovoltaic cells is implemented on the roof. Hardware installations enable economical use of energy. The main source of energy is the heat pump, recuperators are used. The water flow is limited. The selected materials are mostly natural, non-synthetic (solid wood), non-toxic.

The basic idea of the interior design is two halls in the form of canyons, which is associated with climbing in a natural environment. Two broken halls with two characters are formed: the large hall is bright (association with white rocks), the smaller one is warm (wood associates with the image of the Grand Canyon). The brokenness of the halls creates a more natural image of the space and is associated with canyons created by rivers. The finishing of the facade is sprayed reinforced concrete - shotcrete. With the technique of sprayed concrete, we get a varied organic shape that is associated with rocks.

"The project solution subtly integrates the object into the green space of the city of Ljubljana. It is an attractive object that appeals to passers-by and users with its appearance. It creates an atmosphere related to climbing."

Curriculum

SUPERFORM is an architecture company from Slovenia, founded by Marjan Poboljšaj and Anton Žižek in 2001. It is successfully active in the field of architecture, interior, design and urban planning. Superform introduces a new approach: architecture is an experience, which we sense on the three levels of perception: a. The mental level, b. The sensual level, c. The physical level. In the Superform bureau, we create responsible and recognisable architecture that expresses our client’s identity. Together with our clients, we cocreate and upgrade the built environment for a more beautiful world. We believe in architecture as something beyond function and form. It is a multi-layered experience based on stories and adventure. We create a tangible experience that can be felt or simply enjoyed.
