The design principle of the exhibition stems from the desire to celebrate the innate power of certain scholars and artists to go beyond the visible, capable of giving form and color to entities empirically still unknown.Among them was Ulisse Aldrovandi, one of the greatest scientists and visionaries of nature of his time, whose 500th birthday is celebrated in 2022.
Metaphorically, the fear that lurks within the mystery of the black hole turns into a desire for new truths that make the hole instead white and candid, representing the souls of explorers of all space and time, and which, in this particular exhibition, question us on the concept of a universal splendor.By eliminating the constraints of the timeline, we are able to harmoniously relate works and authors from very distant epochs.

The exhibition Oltre lo spazio, oltre il tempo was conceived and created for the interior spaces of the Golinelli Foundation Arts and Sciences Center in Bologna. The pavilion, created specifically to host exhibitions and events and complete the Opificio complex, consists of a volume closed entirely towards the outside which does not imply a compositional relationship between what is created inside and the external context.

The design intent aims to give shape to time that becomes just space through the materialisation of a series of zenithal stems, superimposed on the design of the Southern Cross, the main constellation of the southern sky.

The exhibition space is thus divided into four main sectors that trace the path of human cognition, from the past to futuristic scenarios. Materially, the works are displayed on circular wooden tables, lacquered white, which are arranged around the Southern Cross, like stars in a single constellation.

Crossing the four-pointed platform, with works displayed on the floor, amidst a forest of symmetrical wooden stems, the visitor can finally reach the white hole.

Cosmogony and Cosmology coincide here because the man who is observed jumping - Vierge Noire, Nicola Samorì, 2014 - strong in his knowledge, enjoys his own plummeting. The reflection of his perpetual falling is the reflection of the entire universe that will certainly welcome him elsewhere. Metaphorically, the fear that lurks within the mystery of the black hole turns into a desire for new truths that make the hole instead white.

The exhibition/installation proposes it in a mirroring and circular material, a geometric representation of pi, a mathematical constant with infinite possible combinations.

The visitor, mirroring himself, will be spurred to question his own actions: to launch himself into the unknown like his visionary predecessors, or to remain motionless, in known space.

"The exhibition and research itinerary, curated by Andrea Zanotti, Roberto Balzani, Antonio Danieli and Luca Ciancabilla, is part of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Ulisse Aldrovandi and proposes an unusual and original combination of the museum collections of the University of Bologna, immersive and interactive exhibits created ad hoc and works of modern and contemporary art". Andrea Zanotti, President of Fondazione Golinelli.
