Our design concept can be traced to Duravit’s origin in Hornberg, a town in Black Forest of Germany. On the left side at the entrance, HATCH team creates a wood grouse installation -The bird native to Hornberg has beenin the logo of the brand since 1937, which currently appears in a stylish abstract form. With the wood grouse installation, HATCH aspires to highlight Duravit’s German heritage, as well as the brand’s attachments to its roots. Above the reception area, we design a set of suspending installations inspired by neon-lighted billboards in Shanghai. Each “billboard” greets and welcomes visitors in different languages. Being complementary to each other, two sets of installations compose a narrative of Duravit’s journey from Hornberg to Shanghai, and from Germany to China.
The building’s floor-to-ceiling glass facade ensures favorable indoor-outdoor interactions. The signage in Duravit’s iconic blue color can be seen from afar. The interior design showcases a combination of cultural elements of China and Germany, honoring Duravit’s ambition of making its stakeholders’ lives a little better each day.

The center area on the first floor is designed to be a “stage,” where Duravit’s iconic bathroom furniture and bathroom ceramics can be showcased in turn. The “pedestals”, where products are installed, are designed to assimilate Duravit’s packages. The “pedestals” are installed with wheels so that they can be moved away easily when necessary - and the vacant “stage” can be used to hold events and activities of all kinds, including forums, training sessions and press conferences. Above the “stage,” HATCH creatively customizes a lighting system - We employ 3D scanning and printing technologies to recreates Duravit’s iconic ceramic basins, and the reversely installed basins are utilized as chandeliers.
