Located in a rapidly urbanizing city, Ranchi in India, Sky Deck 72 is an apartment building on an irregular shaped plot with a narrow frontage in a dense area with buildings all around. The marginal open spaces required on all sides, the high permissible built up area & the client’s requirements necessitated the design of a 25 storeyed building. Designed as one apartment at a floor, each apartment is enveloped with landscaped ribbon decks that weave angularly across each floor. This allows the internal volumes to remain cool while providing transitional spaces between the inside and the outside to each room. The lower levels have social interaction spaces including a lounge, a cafeteria, a gym, games room & children play areas.

All the internal walls will be built with indowud, a product made from rice husk that is eco-friendly and carbon neutral. All the steel for construction will be sourced from a steel plant 60 km away from the site. All the public spaces lighting energy will be provided by harnessing solar energy from the roof top. All the water will be recycled and reused.

The building envelope to reduce heat gain, the construction material & sourcing, the use of local contract labour, saving of energy, using of solar power & recycling of water substantially reduce the carbon foot print of this building.
The Clients have been very happy with the design, the building is now under construction . due to the innovative design, most apartment have been booked already.
