House in Kozarceva street,: plasticity and strict geometricity as a reaction to the shapes in the neighbourhood

The family house in Kozarčeva Street is shaped and functionally conditioned by the large slope of the terrain and the dense construction of neighboring plots. The large plot made it possible to move away from the road and "avoid" side neighbours. By perforating and incising, the cube is closed from the view of the neighbours, thus achieving a greater level of intimacy. This achieved the emphasized plasticity and strict geometricity of the building as a reaction to the variety of shapes in the immediate neighbourhood.

The house plot is situated in the residential part od the city of Zagreb, although densly built. The old houses are being substituted by larger ones, due to spatial plans. In this particular plot, the large parcel made it possible to move the house away from the main road and the neighbouring houses. The house itself is oriented towards the large terraces and loggias which offer privacy, and at the same moment closed towards the street.

The entrance is on the basement level which opens toward the upper floors through the lavish entrance space. Living area is in contact with the terrain, on the ground floor, and sleeping area on the upper. The base of the house is in dark, ventilated facade, and wider than the house as it serves as sustaining wall. The upper volume of the house is cladded in facade brick and presents a house shell that rises and falls along the perimeter of the facade and creates intimate spaces of terraces, loggias or porches. These spaces are somewhere between the exterior and interior of the house and are actually the most interesting parts of the volume - the so-called -interspaces.

Close cooperation with architects resulted in home that suits our unique needs and preferences, incorporating personalized design elements and functional features that make our living.
