The idea for the project comes from the fact that we had to build a reception facility for covid patients in a brief time in this part of the world where nothing was foreseen for this type of pandemic. Building a new hospital would have taken much more time and money. It is therefore planned to use containers for this purpose. which allow the extension of an existing building thanks to a modular emergency architecture, at the Renaissance hospital, thus offering a certain number of services to avoid contamination and reinforce the safety of the nursing staff. This composition thus allows us to attach cloakroom, office, airlock, storage, and other services. Once the pandemic has passed, it will simply be enough to subtract them to find the original structure of the hospital.
The project fits into its context without breaking the continuity of the existing facades, the solution with containers avoids a modification of the structure of the hospital and allows for greater modularity for the project. the white color makes it possible to confuse the two structures and such a guest the containers blend into the site. The accesses are specially designed to separate patients from the rest of the hospital and treat patients quickly without the doctors falling ill. Two paths are therefore created to avoid any disease: the clean circuit and the dirty circuit. The different volumes are organized to respect this compositional hierarchy.
The project is therefore part of the perspective of a worsening of the pandemic in Chad and a rapid response to compensate for the lack of service for medical personnel in the Covid 19 emergency. It is therefore planned to use containers for this purpose. which allow the extension of an existing building thanks to a modular emergency architecture, at the Renaissance hospital, thus offering a certain number of services to avoid contamination and reinforce the safety of the nursing staff. This composition thus allows us to attach cloakroom, office, airlock, storage... Once the pandemic has passed, it will simply be enough to subtract them to find the original structure of the hospital.
This project has enabled the Renaissance Hospital to be the first center for the care of Covid 19 patients in Chad and to avoid contamination of medical staff. Diseases were initially received in the emergency room of the hospital, but given the worsening health situation, the construction of the project was an imperative that saved many lives. The separation of the covid 19 unit from the rest of the hospital as well as the rapid care of patients led to this project.
Afrostudio is a professional structure created in 2015 founded by architect Mbogo that works for the integration of contemporary architecture in the historical, traditional, and cultural context of sub-Saharan Africa and more specifically in Chad, all while respecting the environment. The challenge is all the greater if we consider the urban realities and lack of infrastructure that characterize this part of the world. In an innovative architectural approach that considers all aspects of the project we seek to create sustainable built spaces that reflect our ambition as an African urban space. Our activity and know-how have led us to surround ourselves with multiple skills adapted to the projects according to their specificities. Our collective ambition is to share our experience with diversified project owners, public and private.
