The idea of the project for the new secondary school of Osio Sotto, situated inside a public park, derives from a dialogue with the surrounding natural context.
The entire façade is organized according to a pattern of horizontal lines with vertical slats. The texture composes a geometric game originating from the form of the windows and glazed surfaces, while the colour scheme of the finishings, in different shades of greens and reds, reflects the way the surrounding vegetation changes its tones and colours with the seasons. The different surfaces reflect the light in different ways, creating a lively rhythm on the façade and giving the building a mutable appearance.
All the classrooms open towards the external vegetation in a strict relationship with the surrounding context, the true protagonist of the rooms. The windows are both wide and tall, opening onto the park to capture the light and inviting the students to look towards the horizon that, from the first floor upwards, offers a spacious view.
The organic building, permeable to green, allows itself to be enveloped and crossed by vegetation, going beyond its primary function to regenerate and requalify a part of the city.
The internal spaces are flexible and integrated with the nature of the urban park in the service of the community.
The on-site restoration has been the thread of the design phase of this new school campus in Osio di Sotto. A study on the greenery and native essences present on the environment around the building was carried out, in order to integrate the building with local and regional ecosystems, and to preserve the biodiversity that natural systems rely on. The finishing and building materials used have high sustainability characteristics and the estimated operating energy is greatly reduced thanks to the maximization of on-site renewable sources. Therefore, the building is considered highly sustainable within the whole life cycle.

The internal organization develops the theme of “functional convertibility”. The didactic spaces are disciplined by a basic modular pattern that allows strong integration between didactic needs, layout, structure and equipment, ensuring flexibility and adaptability both in terms of capacity and of different uses. "The new high school is a very important investment for the entire community: it looks to the present but also to the future". Mayor of Osio Sotto, Corrado Quarti

Designing a school is always an exciting challenge. Often we are to deal with stringent regulations that limit the way in which we can plan the spaces, and challenging themes such as how to design buildings that are closed, safe at the same time open. The firm designed 46 schools, taking into account a wide range of educational requirements: kindergartens, infant schools, elementary schools, primary and secondary schools, professional institutes and university structures.
