The project connects the Beitang River landscape belt on the south side and the community on the north side through ingenuous design. The landscape corridor runs through the site from north to south and extends into the project site, naturally dividing the land for the kindergarten and the primary school. Relatively independent while interpenetrating, the two areas coexist together. Within the respective limited site, the connection of circular paths opens a boundless space, so the outdoor activity areas are greatly extended. The designers hope to create a childlike and amiable environment where the children will grow as an organic part of the school.

The classrooms of kindergarten and primary school are arranged on the south side of the land to ensure the quietest and best view. The social parking garage is under the sports field, and the entrance and exit are outside the wall to share the school facilities with the surrounding communities. The main entrance connecting the kindergarten and the primary school forms a retreated city square in the northeast corner of the site, which provides a waiting area for parents and a chitchat area for the residents nearby, meeting the various functional needs of home-school collaboration. The school is no longer an ivory tower but an urban teaching complex integrated into community life.

In the elegant light gray tone of the whole campus, light and shadow are constructed through the folding, interspersing and overhead of the architectural form. The use of light grey perforated panels, aluminum panels and fair-faced concrete with wood texture conveys different light and shadow effects to the interior. The same color tone while different surface texture forms full "home" visual experience.

To create a garden-like school by fully utilizing the Beitang River landscape belt, the design boldly introduces the Beitang River landscape belt on the south side into the inside of the schoolyard and realizes the appropriate opening of school through intelligent management to restore a convenient and continuous green corridor that connects the parks and communities separated by the school. Through design methods of the staggered floor, retreated terrace, and open floor, the primary school creates a rich and dynamic external informal learning space under the premise of ensuring the proper use of the building’s necessary functions. Regarding the interior space organization, the design blurs the boundary between the teaching and the traffic space, and it adopts a large-scale atrium to connect various teaching units in series, forming a ubiquitous internal informal learning space. The architectural space of the kindergarten considers the psychological characteristics and perceptual scale of preschool children. The decentralized architecture naturally defines the boundary with the primary school via the shared green corridor, which also serves as a wall. With the children's perspective, the courtyard space is organized like bubbles of different sizes inlaid between the teaching units. The corridors and roof terraces of different elevations become a paradise for children to chase and play through circling three-dimensional track that runs through the first and second floors.

The project has been completed and put into use for nearly a year. Whether the studying and teaching space or the architectural appearance, it is popular among teachers, students, and parents. It has also won recognition from government investors. As a representative project of newly built primary and secondary schools in Binjiang District and even Hangzhou, it re-establishes a new standard for the surrounding relatively fragmented urban appearance.
