Another 72 m2 smart flat in the center of the city, located on Corso Vittorio Emanuele in Naples. The building is an old decommissioned and abandoned factory, where leather was worked and high quality bags and shoes were produced. The factory is located under a bridge overlooking a garden, was closed decades ago and is still largely empty and abandoned today. Only a small portion was transformed into residential use and sold privately. My client asked me to transform what was a real LOFT into a comfortable home for a couple and perhaps a child. The challenge was complex due to the variable heights, the light coming only from one side and the spaces which were particularly difficult to optimize. Thus I created, still in open space, spaces dedicated to activities and usable in various ways.
The apartment which for years has regularly been transformed from industrial use to residential, overlooks a wonderful garden of the convent of the Sacred Heart and the greenery, the calm, the brightness of these places, enter the house in the call of the leaves festive of the false ceiling of which....in the silence the sweet rustle seems to be heard....
The kitchen wall was damp and I used slaked lime … the one that was used in ancient Rome in the baths. The parquet and the wood have been treated with beeswax, all for maximum comfort, a colonial flavor and original modernity. All the walls are made of iron and wood, I used above all , natural materials, avoiding unealthy and toxic products.
Characteristic elements:the internal staircase leading to the mezzanine, strongly evocative of Nature with the false ceiling.Going up the stairs "you climb the tree" where the suspended study is housed with a child's room, a custom-made foldaway bed and "lockers" like a boat for all the stowage. The large open space provides various uses for parties, tables but also relaxation in the reading corner with old books, many stowage areas, a comfortable office for the dining area under the study, drawers and compartments under the 'Albero' staircase accessible only from the walk-in closet.Thoughtful choices for the customer, engeneer and passioned in saling, who loves technology and tradition, such as the majolica tiles on Vietri in the kitchen and bathroom, all made to measure.
The leaves under the ramp .... Nature that re-emerges ... this is what inspired the design choices ... an abandoned factory that comes back to life, as nature takes over the places, Life is reborn in industrial archeology.
For years Ersilia Russo has been designing homes that go against the trend of standardisation, the flattening of tastes, trying to create new environments that are always unique and never the same as each other, just as each person is unique. The search for personalized details, even traditional materials to be made by craftsmen, give uniqueness to each project.
Specialized in very small spaces, design and research of use of ealthy materials, she partecipated al the two last Award by The Plan , been choised in shortlist in both competitions.
Every project she aproches is depp an full of love for Nature and for Life.
