An existing low lying area within a 100 acre residential township that is perennially filled with water is slightly deepened & widened to create a linear water reservoir for the development. At one end of this water reservoir a recreational club with sporting facilities is designed along the existing contours of the site stepping down towards the water reservoir organically. Evocative of the stepped wells that have existed in this desert region since centuries, the club design creates outdoor north facing terraces at each level. The entire embankment on either side of the reservoir is stepped with seating areas and landscaped spaces to create a community space for the township’s residents. Towards the middle of the linear water catchment area a bridge is being constructed for vehicular access across the site. The entire club, seating areas along the water & the bridge are all being constructed from locally sourced sandstone providing a sustainable low carbon solution while simultaneously reducing heat gain in the interior spaces of the club. The entertainment spaces of the club occupy the western side whilst the sporting facilities are planned in the eastern side. Simple rectilinear cuboids fragment the club into an organic composition of cuboid volumes interspersed with landscaped terraces. The bridge opposite too is fragmented into screened cuboids with spaces for people to sit and enjoy the views of the water on either side. Designed holistically with reference to context & simultaneously imbibing tradition, the Ras Club, bridge & water reservoir merge seamlessly creating a large community space.
