Located at the Başkent Organized Industrial Zone, Ankara, Turkey, Heper Lighting Factory and Office Building includes research and development offices, administrative offices, seminar room, lighting academy, laboratory and test areas, showroom, cafeteria, and locker rooms for personnel. The main idea of the project is to integrate technological and industrial production into the architectural design as the facade elements of the building. Developed within the perspective of smart cities, the ‘urban units’ lighting columns are one of Heper’s very recent products and they were designed as different modules. They work by putting one on top of another in a flexible way so that they can be adjusted depending on the needs within the framework of a system. These smart lighting units are integrated into the façade of the factory, with the idea of a colonnade which is one of the most important elements of architectural culture. Classical and modern colonnade is now transformed into “smart colonnade” in our Heper project. The lighting units come together in different functions such as solar panel module, wifi module, camera module, speaker module, interactive display module, radar module, sign module, float light module, an interactive lighting module, and street lamp module as the smart façade elements, in such a way that they bring dynamism to the facade. In addition to these functions developed by Heper, projection modules and modules with plants that can be grown by means of light are suggested by Yazgan Design Architecture. This smart facade, which can work integrated with digital and smart systems, can also communicate with its surroundings with the help of its sensors. For example, the façade will detect the train passing near the building and will be illuminated interactively. As the other main design idea of the project, the green continuation is provided beginning from the landscape passing through the façade, and penetrating the interior. In the interior, the arcades are designed for the clear separation between the office and the production. Under these arcades, trees are planted and nature is integrated into the industrial architecture. The plants are also used in different spaces and surfaces in the interior; with pots, on the steel columns, and on the lighting furniture at the entrance and the cafeteria. Heper Lighting Factory realized with interdisciplinary work, offers an engineer-like architecture.
