K+ BUILDING “The Workplace Exhibition” From Invisible Product to Visible Space The abrupt and drastic changes lead the world into a state of digital disruption, forcing financial businesses to readjust themselves to be more attuned to the new landscape. The K+ application is one of the products attempting to develop a comprehensive platform accommodating in the digital world. Accordingly, the project owner's brief for architect team is to materialize the K+ identity and organizational culture into a work of architecture. The design team then conceptualizes the brief into the phrase 'from invisible product to visible space'. The concept illustrates software and application inventors and developers and their role in materializing the invisible into a visible and functional reality, making financial technologies easily accessible for all, and ultimately bringing a greater convenience to people’s lives. Same question, new answer K+ Building is designed to reimagine the preconceived notion of office buildings. With its characteristics and functionalities, the project serves, not only as a workspace, but a place that offers new opportunities and possibilities to people, both within and outside of the organization. The design team devises a design strategy that creates a void at the center of the building which runs through the entire core axis of the building. This particular spatial program leads users through the main entrance on the ground floor, encouraging them to explore and get to know more about K+ through thoughtfully curated spatial experiences. The program gradually and eventually leads users up to the rooftop garden, another recreational space of the project intended for users to relax and enjoy their time in. With the project being a remodeling of a deserted commercial building, new adjustments are carried out under the limitations that came with the built structure’s original conditions. Design thinking and approach are incorporated to solve the problems and render new results that better answer to the project’s requirements. The architecture team translates the aforementioned ‘visible’ concept in the form of a façade whose custom-made aluminum material contains a pattern that bears the details of binary code used in digital computers symbolized by 0 and 1. The facade, which covers the building’s structure, illuminates when light pierces through its perforated pattern, meaningfully conveying K+’s existence and identity. Aesthetically, the design creates different dimensions of light, which are varied at different times of day. Architectural Design Concept 'Workplace Exhibition' becomes the design concept of the K+ Building. The design delivers the architectural structure and functional spaces that users can easily understand. Every part of the building is visually accessible from the reception lobby to a roof garden on the top floor through the central circulation, a large staircase situated right at the program's center. The staircase serves as a tool for users to observe K+'s work environment, inviting users to know more about K+ through spatial experiences. In line with the intention for the building to serve as a brand representative welcoming outsiders to learn more about K+, the design materializes the G-floor into a public space attracting all users with a coffee shop and a cafeteria. The 1st-2nd floor workspaces are in an open-plan with different types of workspaces. Besides, at the top floor, there is a roof garden with vegetables growing, adding extra functionality created for refreshment. The design intends for the working atmosphere to feel relaxing and encouraging creativity. The design set out to create a structure that welcomes people to learn about K+ through the atmosphere and workspaces. The exterior architecture sees the use of custom-made, perforated aluminum composite and U Glass, reflecting the tech office's identity and characteristics. The interior architecture highlights simplicity through materials and textures, from exposed concrete surfaces to steel and wooden grilles, conveying the more human aspect despite the office's technology-oriented operations. Sustainable Architecture The project is essentially a renovation of an old building. The design team attempts to preserve the building's original structure while integrating modern-day materials, resonating with the project's technology-driven image. Such a concept is complemented with the design's energy-efficient approach developed under the "Renovation with Daylighting Design Implementation" framework. For the renovated old building to have an optimized energy-saving ability, the design team selects environmentally friendly materials. It also the efficient use of natural light in the building while minimizing outside heat. The aluminum perforate and aluminum composite are used as the principal materials. In addition to durability and easy maintenance, the materials' glossy texture helps reflecting heat, while the sheets' perforated pattern can be customized to reflect the project uniqueness. Furthermore, the two materials are locally manufactured and have 100% post recycle content properties. They also serve as the double facade, bringing both the aesthetic and environmental effects due to their ability to ventilate and reduce the heat on the building's surface. Moreover, double glazed and U-profile glass allows natural light into the interior space, consequently reducing the office's power consumption during the day. The exterior wall's descending surface causes the overlapped masses to create shades. Additionally, the highest part of the building where the rooftop garden is located serves as a recreational green area, created to help improve people’s quality of life and well-being. Not only that, having a garden on the roof lessens accumulated heat for the building while minimizing the urban heat island effect simultaneously.
