Housing  /  Completed

The location is near the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, the cradle of canal culture, and Hangzhou's new commercial zone. The architects considered the housing façade as an urban interface that contributes to the city background, and a new and modern image may renew it. The idea offers an alternate separation from the neighbourhood with no distinguishing elements, which may improve architectural qualities on an urban scale. With the complicated site features of tradition, contemporary, nature, and living, the design focuses on the concept of old meeting new, which will identify it to link the past and future in the building look. As a community, it not only covers all of the living necessities, but it also offers the opportunity of a new lifestyle. Target 01: renewal the design language in the surrounding communities. The architects' image is to stand out in the neighbourhood owing to its unusual setting. The notion of canal water emerged, which is fluid, inclusive, and loadable, and it will create the building form in a single stroke. The façade will be rounded corner curve, dynamic and circular stream-lined, and appear like multiple tiny-frame digital full screens, using the design language of Western technology with Oriental aesthetics. Another critical aspect of the design is how the interior layout is to meet the façade, particularly windows and doors, walls and floor slab, which are all interconnected with the façade design. Furthermore, the corner balcony and complete glass interface not only give adequate inside illumination and views, but also create a light form. The color grey was chosen with respect for the light environment and to ensure the long-term value of the building's face look. Target 02: building components are produced in an economic industrial way. The challenge in the construction period is that the building result should be in high precision by an economic and efficient solution. All the decorative components on the façade are divided into the replicable smallest units and made by the automobile parts manufacturers in a modular way. All the joints are considered carefully to make the interface smooth and flat. The difficulty throughout the construction stage is to achieve high accuracy using an economical and effective method. All of the ornamental components on the façade are broken into the smallest repeatable elements and manufactured in a modular manner by car parts manufacturers. To achieve a smooth and flat interface, all joints are carefully studied. Mock-ups are used to test the precise hue of the material on-site.
