With a development of about 60 linear meters along two sides and marked by a sequence of wall-washed metal uprights, the facade cladding radically transforms the existing building, inserted in a semi-industrial suburban context. The vertical geometry of the design develops 9 meters high and is crowned by a projecting metal canopy, which gives continuity to the two fronts. The entrance is located on the short side of the façade and is characterized by a protruding shade in smoked glass, supported by cantilever-shaped sheet metal uprights. Inside, a flat false ceiling, covered with a modular composition of bronzed mirrors with an orthogonal mesh, amplifies the perception of space. The reception area anticipates the decorative theme of the interior design and is characterized by a desk covered in extra-light glass plates, which embellishes the three-dimensional and luminous play of the interior lining. The false ceiling with multiple staggered bands and the scenographic filtering screens, consisting of a metal structure with shelves and a composition of curved vertical blades in steel fabric and blades, as well as double-sided mirror polished steel elements, dominate the flow distribution areas. The full-height metal frames, shaped to house large glass panes, divide the dining rooms. Along the perimeter the lowerings, covered with a scan of bronzed mirrors, increase the perception of the extension of the ceilings, also generating a virtual and graphic texture, through the expansion of the luminous lines. On the walls, a selection of original vinyl coverings softens the geometric rigor of the built elemants, enriching the dark and uniform pattern of the seats with decorative elements. The sushi counter and the bar re-propose, doubling it, the three-dimensional glass cladding with a dense orthogonal scan, illuminated on the sides. The back counter, backlit and in bright tones, contrasts with the watery shades of the front, generating a powerful graphic impact. The large back room is designed and built in a modular form. The cuboidal volumes of the seats are completed with a diffused chandelier project, which fragments the regularity of the design: a pervasive light installation formed by double-sided metal mesh frames, irradiated along all sides. The project is spread over an internal surface of about 650 square meters and is completed with the massive intervention on the façade and the arrangement and decoration of the external areas.

Curriculum

Architect and designer, Maurizio Lai began his career designing for television, entertainment and fashion.
He studied in Venice and Milan, where he established his studio, conceived as a development of constant synergies between architecture and design, determining the creative imprint and the intense emotional effect of its creations.
Prolific interpreter of an original contemporary aesthetic, his work is defined by an instinctive approach, which is naturally reflected in his creations, where light has always played a fundamental role, anticipating times and trends. Hospitality and Retail are the scene of an expressive research, which manifests itself in the built environment as a visual impact and creation of experience, moving more delicately into private residential design.
Alongside his professional activity, he collaborates with prestigious training institutions, such as the Politecnico di Milano and SPD, promoting the culture of excellence in design.
