Spotify Milano: inclusive and culturally relevant offices

e45 - Genuine Italian Design

e45 - Genuine Italian Design

Spotify decided to locate one of its main hubs in Milan, encompassing more than 14 countries through Southern and Eastern Europe. Whilst the main aim was to be inclusive and reflective of growing markets and the global brand, the office in Milan has an Italian accent and is locally and culturally relevant. By taking an entire building in the center of Milan's new modernity which was previously designed as a residence, we combine modern interior architecture, artwork, and dramatic views of the city's new skyline to represent the feeling of a hub for Spotifiers regardless of background, a place of comfort and togetherness. The spaces have been designed to accommodate all of Spotify's vital activities, encompassing zones of collaboration, creation, and focus. This suits the needs of the users from Sales who use the building for training for the whole region and extends to the Artists Labels and Partnership team who will use the space for events and performances. Where possible local sourcing was preferred and materials were chosen according to the most stringent criteria of reduced environmental impact, regionality, and recycled or recyclable content. The utmost care was taken to ensure the acoustic comfort of the spaces, both for the wellbeing of the employees but also in areas such as the listening room and Stage where the acoustic treatment needed to be of a high-performance. With wellbeing at it’s heart, Spotify wanted to make the most of the large number of outside spaces terraces, usable for many months of the year thanks to the city's Mediterranean climate and the design was thoroughly executed to provide play, rest and work zones on the terraces, with a keen eye on lighting planting and suitable furniture. The success of the project is due to excellent teamwork between the client’s Design and Build team, e45 (architects), Acrylisize (artworks), NCA (MEP Design), under the direction of CBRE (Project Management). The Main Contractor and Landlords base build works ensured that the quality of the build was exceptional - bringing the project to both a high standard of design and construction. The project was delivered on time without any defect or mishap thanks to the superlative teamwork where each member did their part excellently, from the Project Manager to the client's Design team, from local designers to engineers. Every detail was taken care of without losing sight of the big picture.
