A series of architectural volumes are used to create an administrative office for a furniture contract company within their factory.
Volumes within volumes lend each functional part of the office their own identity. A large reception space is punctuated by a 36’ high seating area in the form of elliptical pods floating in a shallow reflecting pool at one end and a landscaped courtyard at the other end.
Towards the other side, a 36’ high multi-functional space with movable modular platforms is designed, such that it can be used as a furniture display space, a seminar hall or a social interaction space. A cantilevered sweeping stairway spirals asymmetrically through this volume connecting the three levels of the office and becoming the focal area of the office.
Elliptical volumes form different spaces within the office leading to creation of organic circulation spaces between them. To this, a constantly changing material palette of glass, metallic paint walnut and wood, sound insulation boards, cork and concrete accentuates each area differently rendering these spaces their own identities.
Lighting is integrated with the design in multiple ways to provide functional as well as aesthetic use. The ceiling of the entrance canopy continuing into the reception area is created with pyramidal modules of aluminum integrated with acrylic panel that is lit. These modules are arranged in a manner to rotate the lighting panels in different directions to distribute even lighting and forming an abstract pattern. The elliptical partition of a conference & presentation room is made of thin layers of perforated particleboard with a Plexiglas & LED Light-guided-panels between them to light up completely.
Lighting in the work areas are suspended LED strips built into aluminium sections and made to order in various lengths. The large conference room at the second level has a specifically crafted lighting installation of thin aluminum hollow pipes with small LED bulbs at the ends of some of them. This installation was crafted on site forming concentric & eccentric circles that overlap whilst reducing & increasing in length simultaneously.
Besides, on each level, large openings allow natural light into the internal spaces from the northern side and unobstructed views of the factory on the southern side, to reduce the overall load on energy.
Exposed ducting & exposed structural steel supports allude to the industrial space of the factory along with the steel finishes for most of the partitions.
Each of the workstation areas, the discussion rooms, the cabins, conference room, multi-functional space and video conferencing room based upon the client’s brief is individual in identity and arranged organically over three levels forming an architectural interior with a composition of varying volumes.
