Belsize Lane is a two floors 100m2 office space conceived as a laboratory where Art, Design and Architecture live together. What we designed is a space that is born from the conversion of an existing accountant space into an architecture office. However, this is not just a regular office, since it is thought to involve widely the local community, which is welcome to join our office during our many events, talks and exhibitions. By doing this we are really keen on uplifting the social life of the street and the neighbourhood, enhancing the interest towards arts, design and aesthetics.

The new workspace brings together the finest products from a selection of skilled craftsmen to create a space characterized by a mix of different finishes, such as marble, wood, cement, steel. Unique elements identify each space and every single component of Belsize Lane project was specifically designed by Omnide.

At the ground floor, the area is meant to be a space for permanent and temporary art exhibitions as well as an opportunity for events and seminars in order to promote and create a business hub for constant networking and exchanging knowledge and ideas.
The floor of this space is characterized by a particular contrast of three different materials: marble, wood, and microcement.

The challenge was to move the main architectural office from the street level, where it was expected to be, into the basement, in order to leave the ground floor space open to the public and exhibitors and to create a more intimate and private space at the basement level where the actual design is done. In order to make this happen, we decided to increase the staircase well as well as the window transparency so that we could bring in and down more natural light. This particular move and the use of more texture finishes helped us to create a friendly and more liveable environment where people are not only able to work but most importantly to enjoy spending their time in the space.

A tailor-made steel staircase brings you to the basement where the Omnide architecture practice is located together with a conference room and a small workshop. Moreover, in this particular space a deconstructive concept merges bricks and wood traditional finishes with more contemporary materials and elements, such as microcement, the joinery and exposed mild steel not as commonly used in a typical office environment and applied to fragmented lines and shapes. The stairs, joinery and furniture are designed entirely from the sketch of the architects and produced by the very skilled craftsmen. This design results in a workspace that suits perfectly with the needs of a small architecture firm and where the design idea shows up immediately on sight.

In designing the new space, we kept in mind the need of an architectural office with the possibility to give back also a public use to the local community. This social use will create a place to go for the local resident and a place to work for the architect.
Considering the internal layout at 96 Belsize Lane also the level of complexity and innovation of this small project is shown by the integration of a home automation system, the use of high-quality materials and the specific design of every element.

Also, every single component of this workspace is designed and thought by the creativity of the architects, which conveys the feeling of pure design created from the hand sketch and the strong collaboration of the architects and craftsmen. This offer the possibility to see something different from the other standard interior design practices, sine the visitor can see and touch directly our concept and design which is applied, at the same time, to the projects made by Omnide architecture practice everywhere else.
The benefits and particularity of this project are not just architectural. The concept of the workspace permits to merge Arts with Architecture to raise person’s soul and conceive places of a timeless environment. Is a place where the people can meet for events and seminars, make constant networking and exchanging knowledge and ideas, shows their art and works.
This special connection between Architecture, art and relationship permit to have a unique business architecture hub for all the creative people.

A very innovative characteristic of our office is the presence of an automated system which manages the whole environment. You can set and control the intensity and colour of the spotlights, the sound and video system, cooling and heating system, ventilation system, alarm system, and the CCTV.
