The project was commissioned by Blossom Hill, which is a high-end boutique hotel brand established in Lijiang in 2009. The unique flower aesthetics and the high-quality service which creates sense of belonging are always the core principle of Blossom. It perfectly integrates the service concept of high-end boutique hotels with the local cultural characteristics and customs. With languid lazy, comfortable, humanity as the core style, Blossom has established 24 branches in Hangzhou, Suzhou, Beijing, Lijiang and other places, hoping to create a happy and beautiful humanistic leisure life mode for people. It has integrated local cultural characteristics and customs into every Blossom hotel throughout the country.

The Shushan Blossom hotel in Suzhou, commissioned by Blossom Hill, is located in the northwest suburb of the city, Tong'an town, Huqiu district, at the entrance to the scenic spot of shushan ecological village, covering an area of 3,800 square meters. It is a idyllic land by the Taihu Lake, away from the noise of vehicles and modern city, with ten thousand acres of pear garden. Every year after the cold winter, pear flowers would bloom all over the field. There are pears, Yunquan tea, arbutus and the best hot spring in south Jiangsu province. The annual Shushan pear flower tourism and culture festival is held at this place. At the same time, the SWS designer also fully sorted out the elements representing the characteristics of Suzhou, injected the local architectural language and cultural customs with the modern leisure lifestyle into the design, and advocated the new vacation mode of environmental protection and human health.

This project is a renovation project. Before the renovation, the overall space of the building was cramped, the entrance was not distinctive enough and the functional space is mixed and unorganized. The whole space was lack of holiday atmosphere. Design team learned from the local traditional architecture style of roof that strewn at random discretion and abstracted it into a unique design of building renovation, landscape layout and interior design. The designers adopted the rattan, linen, bamboo, stone, diatom ooze, blue bricks and other harsh natural material and elements, and combined with modern technology, corresponding to the flower aesthetics idea.

In terms of the layout plan, the designer designed the pedestrian passage and barrier-free passage respectively and the independent logistic entrance and passage according to the requirements of the client, which not only satisfied the functions of movement, identification and guidance, but also created a more reasonable flow of people and service route. In order to create a comfortable and private experience, the designer especially set the partition elements between the guest room area and the public area.

For the landscape design, through the observation and research on the existing landscape of the project, the designer team decided to keep the original landscape features and optimize and rearrange the existing vegetation to create the sense of privacy and enclosure and emphasize the connection between monomer buildings, so as to make the hotel landscape and the surrounding environment mutually coordinated. In addition, the designer chose the local beautiful and antiskid paving materials as well as the landscape lamps and elements that complement the vegetation, to create a comfortable and convenient landscape space.

The interior design continues the use of local cultural elements and that with modern technology by selecting flexible furniture and environment-friendly and easy-to-clean materials with local characteristics as the main raw materials. In the lobby area, the designer weakened the traditional lobby concept and transformed the 4-meter high space into a warm living room, narrowing down the distance between the space and life, making the lobby space full of the warmth, enthusiasm and comfortable atmosphere of life. The wooden veneer and terrazzo floor tile in the dining area create a special tone, sticking to the culture emphasized by Blossom. The aesthetic concept of "local cultural creation" pursued by Blossom is integrated into every detail. The corridor inherits the local cultural aesthetic style of the lobby and the dining area, and the large area of raw wood ceiling and parquet carpet outline the cultural customs of the space. Visual contrast effect is utilized and the privacy feeling of the space is achieved under the soft corridor light. In the guest room area, the designer chooses natural gray coating and ligneous floor with elegant and plain furniture, creating the atmosphere of elegant and cosy.

The quality of Suzhou Shushan Blossom Hotel lies not only in its design concept, but also in its spatial cultural creation and functional detail. Through the design renovation of architecture, landscape and interior, a precise balance is achieved between local culture and modern leisure. At the same time, it respects the relationship between human and space, and creates a living space aesthetics full of cultural and artistic philosophy.
