The small property, with an accentuated slope on the topography, is located in the main street of Touguinha, a small village next to the town of Vila do Conde in the north of Portugal.
On site, we found a street front continuity, with houses on both sides of the plot terrain, an old stone wall at the back and, at the front, there are some crop fields with a small grove in the middle.
The implantation of the single family habitation meets the street lineup of the surrounding houses and allows the lateral access on the north side of the property for the footpath and the driveway. In the backyard, we decided to demolish the existing sheds and to recover the old stone wall, a typical feature of the region north of Portugal.
In the lower floor, which occupies about half of the implantation, we have the garage, the technical area, the laundry room and the main entrance with the stairs to the upper floor, which is lit by the south facing patio.
Upstairs, there´s a central aisle that is illuminated with small balconies on each end, which accentuates the division created by the single aisle in the upper floor, between the social area of the house and the bedrooms.
Facing the street, there are three bedrooms with a shared balcony, one of which is a suite with a private bathroom with bathtub illuminated by a skylight. In this zone, there´s also another bathroom, a smaller one, with access from the corridor.
To the posterior zone of the house, more sheltered and connected to the backyard, we have the kitchen, the dining area and living room, spaces which are extended to the outdoors through the grey deck area.
Outside, we have the black concrete floor in the driveway, the grass in the garden and the shale gravel in the outlines with small plants like Santolina, Lavandula and Ericas. In the south patio, the small garden is covered in yellow gravel.
The outside walls and ceilings of the house are covered in ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems) that allows a continuous thermal insulation. The outer skirting board is in white marble and the contention walls are covered with ceramic brick that simulate the traditional brick tiles.
In the interior of the house, we have the eucalyptos flooring through all the main spaces. The walls and ceilings are extended by the lacquered white carpentry that allows an identical continuity on all surfaces.
