FIL DE FER, BY CATELLANI & SMITH
|
Fil De Fer belong to Out Collection, which gathers prototypes and concepts “outside of any other collection” from the past years. Originally realized in a limited series, this lamps enter now into production. This idea came from the request for a huge chandelier for the Museo della Cartografia di Stato – Fontana di Trevi in Rome. Enzo Catellani was asked to design a chandelier that was not only very large but, at the same time, ethereal and with many lights. A chandelier symbolising a universe. He immediately thought of using a light and flexible material that could also become a suitable structure for holding many spots of light. He experimented with the malleability of iron wire and the first shape that was created was an enormous sphere. The Museum lamp was completely another thing, but this prototype remained. It was then easy to produce it in other sizes and last but not least, to realise a tangle of iron wires with a small internal light, “Sweet light”, the intensity of which could be varied with the touch of the hand. |

POULPE BY ESTILUZ
DESIGN ORIOL LLAHONA
|
The sea and one of its most symbolic inhabitants, the octopus, inspired this latest collection from Estiluz. The Poulpe lamp is outstanding for the sensual design of its different versions, featuring large, evocative shapes. Inspired by the hunting methods of the octopus, the Poulpe lamp sheds a subtle and delicate light. Its conical shade emerges gently from four legs that join it to the base, giving out a relentless, indirect light. As the designer says, "This is an apparently very neutral piece, but you will soon see that there is something going on here. There is a transgression within the apparently normal". Llahona has conceived a collection that includes table, hanging and standard versions. Poulpe is manufactured with rigid polyurethane foam with a lacquered finish and comes in three colours: white, shiny black and mole grey. |

GIALLO SF REAL by Marmi Bruno Zanet
|
Natural stone, as time passes and in step with new technological and mechanical developments, becomes increasingly versatile and adapts perfectly to the most different contexts. Marmi Bruno Zanet, to use this material, presents several new materials, each of which has its own innovative color and physical characteristics so it can give precise answers to specific design requirements. GIALLO SF REAL: granite coming from the State of Espirito Santo (Brazil) featuring a yellow background pigmentation with medium or large grain that easily adapts to any type and shape of processing. The technical characteristics of this ornamental rock let it be used both in the building industry and in interior decoration. It is suitable both for inside flooring and for outside covering. It offers an interesting result when it is flame-finished: the granite maintains its color unchanged even when flame-finished and does not turn reddish like all other yellow materials. |

Smoke collection by Vertigo Bird
Design Bevk-Perovic
|
Smoke collection is a series of floor lights based on 'scaled' prototypical elements of suburbia - Factory, Car, Parking Lot and House- isolated from their natural context and transformed into 'iconic' additions for our home or office, belching 'smoke', lighting our spaces.
Their in-between scale (smaller than real-size objects, bigger than expected size lamps) enables them to become 'centers' of our living rooms.
Big enough to be used in both private and public spaces, able to function independently and to be combined together in groups emitting light through recyclable and easy to maintain Tyvek 'smoke' shapes.

VEGETAL BY VITRA
DESIGN RONAN AND ERWAN BOUROULLEC
|
The latest object created by designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec in cooperation with Vitra, the renowned Swiss furniture manufacturer, is called Vegetal and is an organically conceived chair for indoor as well as outdoor use. It is made entirely of BASF’s plastic Miramid® by means of the so-called GIT process, a special injection molding technique. In developing their new chair, the Bouroullec brothers were inspired by a fashion dating back to the beginning of the 20th century: in North America, systematic pruning and painstaking care of young trees made them grow in the shape of chair-like structures. The central element of the Vegetal chair is a seat shell that looks like branches of different thicknesses woven together. It will be available in six different colors as of mid-2009. |
