Italian Panorama - April, May 2011

Our Italian Panorama gives a wide-ranging overview of architecture by Italian architects in Italy and elsewhere, going beyond issues of trends or schools of thought. It is often said that the sheer weight of Italy’s architectural heritage hinders rather than helps Italian architects. We believe it should be considered for what it is: an inestimable stimulus and value added. This detailed examination of contemporary Italian production aims to show how modern-day architecture is an integral part of that priceless heritage. Indeed cultural traditions are best understood and carried forward when contemporary expression vehicles strong values resulting from constant, in-depth research and grasp of the underlying concepts behind responses to differing geographical, architectural and technological requirements. Contemporary architecture means providing answers, giving reasons and making judgements, which in turn are the premise for building well and building sustainably.
