The garden behind Palazzo dell’Arte at Milan’s Triennale hosts the OpenAir Design sculpture exhibition whose subject is outdoor relaxation and work. Aldo Cibic has produced a large, long black bench with electric blue grouting.
Deliberately over-dimensioned to make users feel like small children, the “Millepiedi” or centipede has irregularly placed feet to give the impression of movement. In a coloured setting of grass and flowers, Aldo Cibic’s coloured installation is intended to be both architecture and fun, an object withstanding time and the elements.
The metal frame structure is clad with marine-resistant multi-layer board. The frame comprises three modules and was assembled and bolted together on site and then given a waterproof coating.
The reinforcements accompany any bending of the structure, absorbing and dissipating applied stresses.
