Course DescriptionThe course examines a museum building whose design plays an important role in its urban setting while also performing its function as an exhibition center. This is a significant project for understanding how design for a specific purpose can be supported by the versatility of concrete to produce innovative forms that respond to the functional needs of interior spaces. The course comprises photographs, sketches, technical drawings, construction details with legends, and an introductory text.
Learning Objectives – after reading the article and studying the drawings, you will be able to:
- Analyze the materials used for both the external and internal finishes in relation to the building’s setting and, in particular, how concrete was used.
- Assess how the architect worked with forms to create an attractive exhibition space.
- Analyze how the lighting of the exhibition spaces has been designed so that visitors also perceive light from outside.
- Identify the design approaches that have produced innovative spatial use.
