Course DescriptionThe course examines a contemporary building created as a museum, with special focus the materials used and design strategies adopted to develop an architecture allowing art to be experienced in a new way. Course material includes an introductory text, photographs, and numerous technical and construction-detail drawings with explanatory legends. These provide exhaustive information on the project as a whole and the high-performance materials and technologies employed, with special focus on their use in combination with an innovative museum typology.
Learning Objectives – after reading the article and studying the drawings, you will be able to:
- Analyze the structural and finishing materials used inside and out as a function of the building’s particular setting and the pre-existing structures.
- Assess the innovative features in terms of form, circulation paths, and spatial usability.
- Define how natural daylighting has been exploited in view of the special lighting requirements of a building exhibiting works of art.
- Identify the new technologies employed to create a new museum concept.
