Course DescriptionThe course looks at a soccer stadium renovation project in South Africa carried out in preparation for the World Cup Football Championships hosted by the country in 2010. Not only the venue for the final world cup match, the stadium in question is sited in Soweto, famous for its role in the fight against apartheid. Hence the structural renovation and contemporary architecture improvements to provide a state-of-the-art facility were also geared to creating an iconic building symbolizing national identity. Course material includes an explanatory text, photographs, and technical and construction-detail drawings that together provide an exhaustive overview of the project and detailed information on the modern materials and technologies employed.
