Course Description
The course examines a religious building whose traditional designated uses have been accommodated within a contemporary architecture. Focus is given to the way in which the program succeeds in combining design, materials and innovative forms to deliver a new take on traditional requirements. Course material includes an introductory text, many pictures and sketches as well as technical and construction-detail drawings with legends.

Learning Objectives – after reading the article and studying the drawings, you will be able to:

  1. Explain the design features that deliver the specific functional requirements of a traditional place of worship.
  2. Explain how the materials used corroborate the project design.
  3. Explain how the esthetic of a place of worship has been achieved.
  4. Analyze how traditional features of a religious building have been woven into an innovative program to generate a contemporary place of worship.
