Course DescriptionThe course examines how the architecture of the Long Room Hub blends with its historic site in the center of Dublin while at the same time complying with state-of-the-art sustainability requirements. Despite its imposing bulk, the building stands as a lightweight contemporary architecture in its historic context thanks to the careful use of stone cladding. Its three-dimensional matrix generates varying-height interior volumes and modulated light levels. Course material includes an explanatory text, many photographs and technical and construction-detail drawings with accompanying legend. On completing the course, you will be able to describe how a natural material – stone – has been employed in a versatile, contemporary architecture.
